50 On Sale (But Very Worth It) Clothing Items To Buy Right Now
Plus! Breaking down 10 recent pick-ups from the end of last year.
The onset of a new year doesn’t have to mean anything for your style, but it can be a moment to reflect on what purchases and fits worked—or which didn’t—during the previous twelve months. Personally I actually think I got into a pretty good groove in 2023. For the most part, I stayed in my pocket and when shopping for new clothes tried to focus on finding the best versions of stuff I already know I like. If I had to resolve to do anything differently this year, maybe it’d be wearing more color. Then again, the reason I so often default to muted tones is because I legitimately feel my best in them, and I’ve found it to be one of the best ways—alongside quality and fit—to safeguard against getting sick of something after like a week. So maybe this is just one of those “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” type moments. I guess as the year goes on, and I inevitably acquire more things, we’ll find out.
With that in mind, below is a two parter where I first looked back to round up 10 of my favorite things I got in Q4, and almost all of which I’ve already worn during the first week or so of 2024. Then, in the interest of looking ahead, I scoured the inundating sale sections of a bunch of retailers (many of which just launched into their big winter discount season) to excavate 50 items I feel like aren’t just good buys because they’re on sale, but because they’re just legitimately good wardrobe additions you can actually wear this season and beyond. Enjoy!

Vintage MA-1 Flight Jacket
Bomber jackets aren’t the must-have they were a decade ago. If anything, there have been so many slim-fit, tech start-up-funded versions put out into the world since then that they’ve lost a lot of their luster. But a vintage MA-1 will always be an unimpeachable staple.
The way I came to own mine was a little unexpected. I didn’t go into the new Buck Mason store in Flatiron thinking I needed a 60 year old flight jacket, but it actually has an excellent selection of vintage gear to accompany the huge array of T-shirts, jeans, sweaters, coats, and more.
The second I put this one on I knew it was coming home with me. After decades of wear, the once puffy fill is now matted down, which gives it a less bulky look than modern versions and in turn makes it a nice middle layer under my topcoat. And its cropped, boxy fit is the stuff “small jacket, big pants” dreams are made of.
