How To Create (Or, Curate) The Best Dressed Man On Television
Well, on streaming at least. Here, Adam Pally, Dan Libman, and Olivia Perdoch speak on what went into the “extremely my zone” fits seen on Peacock’s new Steph Curry-leading show, Mr. Throwback.
Most casual content enjoyers know Adam Pally first as an elite tier comedic actor, but ask any menswear guy about him and they’ll almost certainly tell you he’s also one of best dressed dudes in Hollywood. Unlike a lot of stars who will look good in a suit on a red carpet only then to return to their slim stretch chinos, Pally is legitimately “one of us”—he loves clothes, admittedly spends too much on them, and, most crucially, knows what pieces work for him day in and day out. Spot him on the streets of New York and you might find him sporting brands like Second/Layer, Libero, or Carter Young that you’d have to be a real ‘head to know about, let alone pull off as well as he does.
Now, his love for premium attire in real life and on screen personas are colliding on a new Peacock show titled Mr. Throwback. On it Pally plays Danny Grossman, a former basketball prodigy and friend of Steph Curry’s who now spends his days celebrating a different set of glory days in the form of vintage sports memorabilia and clothing. As a result, the show implies, he’s amassed an enormous collection of beautiful old threads—and not just retro team merch, but leather jackets, fisherman sweaters, made-in-USA Levi’s, and even a few choice designer pieces. It’s the first time probably since I was in high school watching Mad Men that I can remember tuning into a show and thinking, “I would wear every single thing this guy has on.” (I’ll also note that like Don Draper, Grossman too isn’t exactly a beacon of good morals.)
