I recently entered the world of TikTok and I’ve found it to be pretty fun. It was easy for me to find a lane as a harsh critic because my first reaction to all of the fashion advice on there was that it’s 90% bad. That isn’t to say the people giving the bad advice are themselves bad or have any moral failings whatsoever—simply that a ton of loud voices on the platform are serving up either outdated or ill-informed fits to seemingly endless praise. To me, critiquing something like insanely tight ripped jeans that are pin-rolled and worn with a no-socks and Common Projects fit would be something most people can get behind. I don’t think comments sections are an indication of general consensus (commenting angry things in comments sections is inherently odd to most people), but I was surprised at how many people felt the need to defend the honor of this look or get upset that I was critiquing it at all.
