72 Of My Favorite Sweaters For Fall-Winter 2024
From alpaca crewnecks to cashmere zip-ups, the cozy knits that’ll carry you through the season.
If you asked me anoint one clothing category as my all-time favorite, chances are I’d tell you sweaters with little hesitation. Don’t get me wrong—I adore jeans, jackets, suits, and shoes—but when I have absolutely no clue what to wear, I know a sweater will be up to the task of making me feel like my most stylish and, well, me self. I love basically everything about ‘em. I love the way they’re perfectly situated right in the middle of casual and formal—cozier than a button-up yet dressier than a sweatshirt. I love the way a simple merino or cashmere number is a true do-anything garment—something to wear under a suit at an upscale cocktail party or with a pair of sweatpants on a groggy, lazy Sunday. Yet I also love how sweaters are the ultimate vessel for showcasing bold colors, patterns, and materials. (While I probably wouldn’t wear a trippy space dyed sport coat, put that same pattern on a cotton or mohair knit and I’ll ask you where to swipe my credit card.)
That probably explains why a) I own so many (I think around 25 at this point) and b) I find it easier to justify spending big money on sweaters compared to other items in my wardrobe. (A $1,000 shirt? Possible, but unlikely. A $1,000 sweater? Now that’s just a smart sartorial investment.) Yet, despite an already extensive collection, each fall I can’t help but log onto the World Wide Web in search of new ones to add to my rotation. And, though not exactly unexpected, right now there are a ton of great sweaters out there to choose from.
With that in mind, over the last week or so I’ve been combing through my favorite retailers’ websites in search of the best sweaters to scoop up, culling each new arrivals section for the ultimate crewnecks, cardigans, v-necks, vests, and everything in between. Some of the below are subdued staples, while others are punchy standouts that’ll keep you warm and turn heads all season long. I’ve even included sections for under $100 sweaters and a few choice vintage pieces, which altogether bring this list to 72 (in my humble opinion, very good) selections. After all, as I always say, the more sweaters, the better. (Narrator: He’s literally never said that until this moment.)
I also included the composition of each sweater under their respective listing so you don’t have to click through to see if it’s cotton, cashmere, wool, or some blend. Enjoy!
